PROVIDING CUSTOMIZED SECURITY FEATURES TO DECREASE FRAUD

CHALLENGE: The Union des Journalistes de Sport en France (UJSF) annually issues credentials to sports journalists. The credential was being counterfeited, despite including an advanced security feature - an embedded holographic image. Counterfeiting attempts were taking place because journalists wanted to avoid paying high annual registration fees to the UJSF.

SOLUTION: The UJSF called on Entrust Datacard partner ICTS to aid in the search for a new credential printing solution that would ensure the IDs could not easily be counterfeited. Together they determined that the Datacard® SD460™ printer with tactile impression would be the best solution to increase the security of their credentials and decrease fraud.

RESULTS: Since introducing the new cards, the UJSF has seen a reduction in the number of fraudulent cards.

BUSINESS CHALLENGES
Each year, between 5,000 and 6,000 sports journalists in France must register with the Union des Journalistes de Sport en France (UJSF) and pay an annual fee to obtain their official press credentials. The registered press credentials allow the journalists access into various sporting events throughout the country, many times with special access privileges. Even though the UJSF credential included an embedded holographic image, the UJSF was finding a great deal of fraudulent or counterfeited identification cards amongst the journalists. Believing that the fraud was due mostly to press not wanting to pay a high annual fee to the UJSF, UJSF decided it was time to find a more secure solution for their credentials.

ADDITIONAL SECURITY TO THWART COUNTERFEITS
To meet the heightened security needs of the UJSF, Entrust Datacard partner ICTS, a card printer specialist, suggested the Datacard SD460 printer with inline lamination and tactile impression. The tactile impression feature helps to make cards more secure by physically impressing a tamper-evident image into the card substrate at the time of personalization. A security feature that is very hard to counterfeit and makes it very difficult to alter the credential.

PERSONALIZED SECURITY FEATURES
To even further increase the security of their credential, the UJSF decided to utilize the option of a custom-created die for their tactile impression. This die allowed UJSF to use an image of their choosing as the imprint on top of the credential image. By including inline lamination, tactile impression and custom die -- all personalized through the Datacard SD460 printer – ICTS was able to provide the UJSF with a printer that allowed them to create on-demand credentials that are resistant to fraud and counterfeiting attempts – thus creating a more secure identification card program.

Commerce Bank Instantly Issuing EMV Debit and Prepaid Payment Cards to Consumers in over 170 Branch Locations Throughout the Central U.S.

MINNEAPOLIS—(Mar. 15, 2016)—Entrust Datacard today announced that Commerce Bank, a subsidiary of Commerce Bancshares, Inc. and operator of hundreds of retail banking locations in the central United States, is utilizing its software and hardware solutions to instantly issue EMV smart card debit and prepaid cards to its customers in over 170 branch locations.

Preparing its card operations well in advance of the U.S. EMV liability shift deadline of Oct. 1, 2015, Commerce Bank—which is based out of Kansas City—looked to provide differentiated services, an added layer of security with smart card technology, and enhanced customer experiences by offering its customers the ability to receive an instantly issued EMV debit and prepaid card in branch – for both new cardholders and those needing a replacement card. The branches have been fully operational with offering instant issuance of EMV cards since late last year.

"Commerce Bank is committed to providing our customers with best-in-class service and security of payment cards, and we wanted to ensure that we were well-prepared to begin offering our customers EMV cards as soon as possible,"said Angela Finn, vice president and manager of Debit and Prepaid Products at Commerce Bank. "We have a very long-standing and valued partnership with Entrust Datacard and it was a natural progression to upgrade our services with them in order to offer our customers instantly issued EMV cards. We very much appreciate their continued support and forward thinking innovations that allow us to provide our customers with unprecedented security and service."

Commerce Bank first implemented Entrust Datacard's financial instant issuance software and hardware in 2006. The end-to-end solution includes the Datacard® CR500™ instant issuance system and flagship Datacard® CardWizard® instant issuance software.

"We very much value Commerce Bank's longstanding partnership with us," said Ray Wizbowski, vice president of the financial vertical for Entrust Datacard. "They were one of the earlier adopters of instant issuance as they very quickly realized the value it brought to them and their customers. It only makes sense that they were one of the first to ensure that they offered instant issuance of EMV cards as well. By offering in-branch instant issuance of EMV enabled prepaid and debit cards, Commerce Bank is providing their consumers with security and convenience, all while driving up their engagement rates, customer satisfaction and increasing their ROI."

Entrust Datacard has a long history of successful implementations supporting over 300 EMV deployments, and over 25,000 instant issuance programs worldwide. In the U.S. alone, more than 3,400 financial branches have successfully rolled out EMV instant issuance; and over 5,400 branches or retail locations outside the U.S. are currently issuing chip cards – all utilizing Entrust Datacard® instant issuance solutions.

Datacard® Secure Capture Tower Timeout Issues

This is a technical update concerning the Datacard® Secure Capture Tower, if you are experiencing Camera Timeout Issues.

The Secure Capture Tower may exhibit periodic “Camera Timeout Errors” during use. There are items to check and parts to install if you start seeing these errors.

There are three things that can be done at this time to reduce the frequency of Camera Timeout Errors:
  • Ensure that the external USB cable contains ferrite beads for noise filtering
  • Ensure that the internal USB camera cable is plugged into J3 of the internal USB Hub board, and NOT J2
  • Add two ferrite beads to the internal USB camera cable leading from the internal USB Hub board to the camera, (one bead in the base and the other bead in the head of the Tower)
These steps are only to be performed by a Datacard Authorized Service Provider, namely DKC Associates.
If you are experiencing these timeout issues, please Contact Us and we will sort it out.

Entrust Datacard’s Card Personalization System Used in the Production of the Irish Passport Card

Entrust Datacard’s Card Personalization System Used in the Production of the Irish Passport Card

New Passport Card Allows Irish Citizens to Travel within 28 Countries without Passport Booklet

MINNEAPOLIS—(Jan. 19, 2016)—Entrust Datacard today announced that the Datacard® MX6000™ Card Issuance System is being used to provide the LaserTact™ Security Feature for the Ireland Passport Card. Entrust Datacard has partnered with DLRS Group Security Concepts of Ireland to help facilitate the issuance of the first ever passport card for the country of Ireland. Passport card holders have the ability travel within the EU, EEA and Switzerland by land, sea or air.

In October 2015 Ireland began issuing passport cards to citizens in a move to make it easier for citizens to travel with a convenient card for border control in Europe. With no national ID card program, citizens were required to carry their passport booklet with them for identification purposes while traveling in Europe. Citizens indicated that they did not like carrying the bulky book with them at all times and lost booklets were expensive to replace. To apply for the passport card, citizens must currently carry a valid passport booklet and be over the age of 18. The Ireland Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is using the Datacard MX6000 card issuance system with the LaserTact™ Security Feature which raises the surface of the passport number on the passport card to create a tactile element.

"At Entrust Datacard, we pride ourselves on providing unique security laser engraved features to help governments and their citizens with secure identity solutions," said David Belchick, vice president of vertical marketing at Entrust Datacard. "The Ireland Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade can now provide their citizens with an identity solution that enables the document to have a tactile feature that can quickly and easily be authenticated but not easily reproduced."
