The HID Global pivCLASS® biometric reader is a FIPS-201-compliant reader for “Exclusion” areas. Featuring a fingerprint sensor, keypad and card slot, the reader also integrates with the pivCLASS authentication module (PAM) to verify the status of identity data before permitting access. Multiple layers of verification with PAM integration include the following:
- PIV: The validity of the scanned card and its certificates, in accordance with the personal identity verification (PIV) standards established by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
- PIN: The on-card match of the personal identification number (PIN) stored on the card with the PIN entered by the cardholder.
- BIO: The comparison of the fingerprint biometric (BIO) stored on the card with the cardholder’s live fingerprint presented at the reader.
