End of Support for Legacy RFID Tags in FARGO Card Printers

End of support for legacy RFID tags in FARGO HDP5000 and HDPii/HDPii Plus card printers.

The latest printer firmware upgrade version 5.4.5 for the FARGO® HDP5000 and HDPii/HDPii Plus printers disables support for legacy radio frequency identification (RFID) technology. As a result, consumables manufactured prior to October 2013 will not be supported by HDP5000 or HDPii/HDPii Plus printers utilizing printer firmware versions 5.4.5 and above.
.
Customers who place consumables with legacy RFID technology into a HDP5000 or HDPii/HDPii Plus printer with firmware version 5.4.5 or above will get an error of “no ribbon” when a print job is sent to the printer. The RFID technology being used on the printer consumables is denoted by color coded RFID tags. Green, white or clear RFID tags use legacy RFID technology, while red RFID tags use the new RFID technology.
Firmware version 5.4.5 provides various enhancements and improvements, including support for HDP5600 consumables in HDP5000 printers. This firmware version will enable customers using both HDP5000 and HDP5600 printers to consolidate to a single set of supplies that function in both printer models.
Since only HID Global’s FARGO printer consumables for HDP5000 and HDPii/HDPii Plus printers manufactured before October 2013 are affected by this change, HID does not anticipate this change to affect customers. However, options are available to support customers who still desire to use outdated consumables inventory, including replacement of the legacy consumables or downgrading printer firmware to a prior version that provides support for legacy RFID technology.
Please note that downgrading firmware will remove performance enhancements and support for new features and functionality that are added into firmware revisions having a version number of 5.4.5 or higher.
Version 5.4.5 firmware will be made available for download immediately.
