Entrust Datacard Collaborates with VMware to Streamline Access to Enterprise Applications for Mobile Users

Entrust Datacard, VMware Workspace ONE and VMware AirWatch to deliver a strong security and regulatory compliance solution that allows for mobile access to enterprise applications

MINNEAPOLIS—(June 14, 2017)—Entrust Datacard, a leading provider of trusted identity and secure transaction technologies, today announced that the company has entered into a technology collaboration with VMware to support enterprise mobility through VMware Workspace ONE™ and VMware AirWatch®. The collaboration will provide mutual customers with an integrated and secure solution that helps meet the needs of an increasingly mobile and remote workforce by providing secure access to enterprise applications from a mobile device, all while meeting regulatory compliance requirements. The collaboration with VMware adds to the company’s portfolio of EMM partners, providing customers with flexibility to meet their evolving digital business initiatives.

Today, mobile devices and cloud applications are transforming user experiences and raising customer expectations. Enterprises and government agencies must find a balance between providing employees with access to better apps and tools and also ensuring the security of their enterprise assets. While security is top-of-mind, it is also important that it does not prevent enterprises and agencies from embracing mobile business transformation initiatives that enhance employee productivity and customer service. The offering will integrate the Entrust Datacard™ mobile smart credential, which embeds a virtual smartcard derived from the user’s certificated based identity into native apps and services such as mail, WiFi, and VMware AirWatch secured applications – all via the AirWatch Enterprise Mobility Management™ solution.

“As organizations expand the use of mobile technology in order to meet business initiatives and as government employees using mobile devices require secure access to internal resources, it is imperative that this sensitive information remains secure through identity-based authentication and is protected from unauthorized access,” said Ryan Zlockie, global vice president, authentication for Entrust Datacard. “Furthermore, the access provided to enterprise applications must be easy to access and provide the end user with a frictionless experience. Our collaboration with VMware does just that.”

The integrated solution will be available for Apple iOS and Android operating systems and will support secure access to email, WiFi, VPN and other enterprise applications. Additionally, the mobile solution will support secure Bluetooth login capabilities, which allows enterprises and governments to utilize a mobile device as a virtual smartcard for access to buildings and computers. Furthermore, the integration allows government agencies to provide their employees with remote access that meets Homeland Security Presidential Directive-12 (HSPD 12), Federal Information Processing Standard Publication (FIPS) 201 and NIST Special Publication (SP) 800-157.

"VMware and Entrust Datacard have collaborated on a solution to enable users to authenticate for secure access to sensitive information and applications from mobile devices,” said Adam Rykowski, vice president, product management, Mobile Products, End-User Computing, VMware. “The solution eliminates the need for passwords with an embedded virtual smart card that helps enable convenient access for users without compromising security. This solution is ideal for organizations with strong security requirements such as U.S. federal government agencies.”
